Are you looking into getting a Drain Survey? You may want to know what’s involved and how to best go about it. If you have any questions about the process, we’re available for advice on our freephone number 1800 437 246. But here are a few things to look out for and keep in mind about the process.

Getting a Drain Survey When Buying or Selling a House

If you’re buying a house, this is an important check to perform. You could be buying from a very honest owner, but that doesn’t mean they know what’s happening under their floors. Very often, the original plans (if there is one) doesn’t accurately locate where the plumbing is passing. This can be a liability if there’s any renovation work to be performed. And while it’s not common, we have come across hidden leaks that were going under the surface — even in occupied premises — that weren’t causing problems yet but would do down the line. Proactively performing the checks in advance removes all risks and doubts before things become problematic.

How Does it Work?

Whenever there’s a drainage issue, our emergency units can perform a quick ‘look-see’ check to see what caused the blockage. But in order to perform a comprehensive drain survey, we will send our dedicated CCTV drain surveying unit to your home or business. This is the only way to know for sure whether your drains are in sound condition. This can be especially important if there’s an intermittent (but persistent) issue, such as drain odours or occasional blockages. If the oul’ plunger isn’t solving your problem then there may be something unexpected causing the issue. Our comprehensive CCTV Drain Survey is performed to WRc standards and is suitable for industrial and professional environments.

What happens next?

If your drains are all clear, you’ll get a full report meeting WRc standards, which can be shared with any relevant parties. If we discover a problem that a simple unblocking won’t fix, such as damage to pipework, cracks, backfalls or other issues, we’ll advise you on the problem and the best type of repair. This can be carried out by our specialist drain repair crew.
